THE PACT: AN EXPERIENCE by Pam Powell

Caity Lotz, Haley Hudson, Agnes Bruckner
What a busy day and night!  The WKAN morning show at 6 am, 2 movies, a press conference (with another close encounter with Robert Redford...did I mention that he is still SO handsome?), dinner and now, at 11:00 PM (one hour PAST my usual bedtime!), I'm waiting in the "green room" at the Egyptian Theater to meet and take pictures on the red carpet with the cast and crew of the horror flick, THE PACT.

Agnes Bruckner
This was my first "red carpet" experience and some of the casts' first film experience so we were in the same boat.  What a fun-loving, excited and down-to-earth group of people.  They were truly having so much fun with the entire experience.  Agnes Bruckner was first to be photographed and you could just see the excitement in her eyes with knowing that her film was going to be on the screen in just a few short minutes.  She had a blast with collecting the "swag" and her entire outfit was some of the swag of the day! The rest of the cast came in with just as much enthusiasm, energy and wide-eyed wonder.  As you can see from the photos, the cast and crew (and I!) had fun.

THE PACT stars Caity Lotz, Agnes Bruckner, Casper Van Dien, Haley Hudson, Kathleen Rose Perkins, and Sam Ball.  This feature, based on last year's short, was written and directed by Nicholas McCarthy.  I have to admit that I am not a horror flick fan.  But this one may have swayed me to change my mind.  The story centered around two sisters coming back to their home town to deal with the death of their mother.  As the story unfolds, you learn about other horrific incidents that took place in the girls' past.  The eldest sister, played by
Casper Van Dien
Agnes Bruckner, disappeared and the younger sister, played by Caity Lotz, attempted to find her, but supernatural barricades stood in her way.
Nicholas McCarthy being carried away!

Caity Lotz
Caity Lotz, who played Annie, was a believable actress in this movie.  Her reactions were not over-the-top as can be seen in so many horror movies, but instead realistic for the unbelievable and scary situations.  The writing and directing made me jump in my seat several times as the set up for the situation was perfectly planned.  Casper Van Dien played the police officer who attempted to help solve the disappearance of the older sister.  While his part was small, it was still crucial and well done.  The special effects were also not over-the-top, but very effective.  I think that is what made this horror movie better than so many others.  It didn't try to "WOW" you; it captured you into thinking this was actually happening.  That style is so much more effective.

A resounding applause enveloped the old Egyptian Theater as the credits rolled.  Obviously, I was not the only one who enjoyed being scared in my seat at midnight.  The entire cast and crew took the stage for the Q & A.  Again, you could see that everyone had a blast being together and being a part of this production.  I was amazed to hear how they did the special effects of Caity being "supernaturally" flung through the air.  Bunge cords were used and she described the amount of physical work it took to accomplish this task.  Great job!

Homeward bound at 2:30 am in the snow covered streets that were still packed with party-goers.  I'm exhausted but energized at the same time thanks to the high energy at the Egyptian.
